Which place in your house is your absolute favourite?
This changes all the time! But at the moment I would say my garden is my favourite spot. When we bought the house I saw the garden as the compromise, it’s definitely on the small side and I wasn’t keen on the patio…However, I’ve really grown to love it! We added a corner rattan sofa, festoon lighting and an outdoor rug and now it’s the perfect spot for relaxing with a glass of Pimms (if ever the summer decides to turn up) In the Winter however, I’d have to say my lounge is my favourite - everyone always comments on how cosy this room is. My absolute favourite is when it’s decorated for Christmas!
What is your favourite homeware shop and do you have a favourite brand?
I think I’d have to choose House Doctor as one of my favourite homeware brands – I love all their simple designs and the way they combine two of my favourite looks – Scandi and Industrial. As for a favourite shop – I have so many it’s hard to choose! I love Holly’s House, House Envy, Mia Fleur and Notonthehighstreet – I probably check all of these sites on a daily basis to see what new bits they have added. Some may say I have a shopping addiction!
What, according to you, is an essential in an interior?
I think your home should reflect your personality. There’s nothing I love more than to see shelves stacked full of quirky, individual bits that are unique to the homeowner. What I have learnt is that you can’t rush this – it takes time to build up a collection of items that are personal to you – these may be things you’ve bought on holiday, antique or market finds or thing you’ve inherited from family members.
Which item is the most precious to you in your house?
I would have to say the gallery wall of wedding photos in my hall. I love that they are the first thing I see when I walk in the door! The frames were bought on eBay, I paid £30 for a job lot of 15 vintage gilded frames – such a bargain! They’re all different and in varying states of repair but each as beautiful as the last!
What is your ultimate style tip?
Trust your own style! In my experience of working with clients, I have found that people often put too much emphasis on sticking to a particular style. Many a time I have received an email from a client asking me if the cushion / artwork / rug that they’ve fallen in love with will go in their home. And my advice is always the same – if you love it, it will be go! I say don’t worry too much about sticking to certain colours or a particular style, by filling your home with things you love and you can create your own style!
